Brent Stirton, 2011

This picture shows that you can not take anything for granted even sight. These girls who just underwent eye surgery are being able to see for the first time and are taking every little thing in, such as grass, leaves and bullrushes.

American Soldier Gets Directions From French Woman, April, 1944

In this image an American solder is sitting on a pile of rubble with a French woman. She is giving him directions on the map they are holding. This image helps to show the human factor in war. You can see that he is wearing jeans instead of fatigues and they seem to be having a relatively relaxed conversation. This shows that people still don't lose their humanity in war and that even people who speak different languages still can relate.

No Name, Brent Stirton, 2011

This photo shows us that we shouldn’t take things, such as sight, for granted. On the other hand, it shows that it is possible to live joyfully without such an important sense. These girls show us that they are able to enjoy life through other senses.

Untitled by John Stanmeyer, September 21, 2014

The ISIS takeover of northern Syria is terrible and reprehensible.  Yet, this event is most tragic because of how it devastates the individual families and children who have been forced to pick up everything and flee to a foreign land.

Protests in Ferguson By Whitney Curtis 2014

The image shows the irony and sad state of the police force. Irony can be found in this image because the protests that are going on during the taking of this image are about the shooting of Michael Brown by an officer and Police Brutality. It very simply shows that black men are not the problem and police are.

Untitled, Shehab Uddin, 2015

People from Western Cultures seem to think that they can portray the poor in any way they want without asking them. The photographer who took this image disagreed. He thought that it was an issue that the subjects of the images do not get a say in how they are depicted, and he thought that this was unfair.

"Forward Ever, Backward Never" by James H. Barker, 1969

This photo was taken during the time of the Selma march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama. The Selma march marked a huge, inspirational turning point in civil rights history. From this point on, they could move “Forward ever, Backward never,” as the church sign says.
