This image of the Selma to Montgomery marches that took place in March of 1965 depict the many hardships that were faced along the way. Particularly, the prominent interracial couple the image pictures portrays the goal of racial unity and integration of blacks and whites. Although marching for change, these men and women marched with patriotism, strength, and courage through the brutality of the Alabama heat and the abuse of their racist oppressors.
